Case Study
Project overview
Rijal Almaa is an ancient, remote village in the Asir region of southern Saudi Arabia that once served as a vital trading point. Today it is a heritage site and a growing tourist destination.
The celebration, run by the Saudi Ministry of Culture, celebrates the traditional dress of the Qahtani tribe from Habala, a remote mountain town near the Saudi–Yemen border, known as Saudi Arabia’s “Flower Men” for their colourful headpieces.
The task was to create a unique spectacle that highlights the richness of local history and cultural heritage. For the artwork we used powerful cultural symbols, with flowers and the making of flower bands as our inspiration, moving from inspiration to a visual for approval to the final artwork projected onto the old stone buildings.
